An experience of a lifetime.
RARE, just the beginningI conducted my own research project in the Peruvian Amazon the summer after my freshman year. This place is where my love for research blossomed.

RARE is a competitive opportunity at Radford University that offers a chance for undergraduates to formulate, conduct, and present original research. My research revolved around how the human body reacts to such a drastically new environment. In 2017 and 2018, I focused my project on RARE groups; in 2019, I broadened this research to study abroad programs that traveled to Chile and London.
This experience played a massive role in my life and where I am today. Not only did I realize I loved research, but I also loved working in the field. These two new-found things about myself, along with my undergraduate degrees in anthropological sciences and biology, led me to go to graduate school in bioarchaeology. Since RARE, I've been able to travel to Belize for several summers to help staff undergraduate field schools, as well as share my love for research.
